Sixty-five students from 19 different schools participated in a  recent local chess tournament, demonstrating the growing interest in scholastic chess throughout our region. The strong turnout highlights the need for more regular, local chess opportunities for students of all ages and skill levels.

The Gold Country Scholastic Chess League (GCSCL) was created to help meet that need by supporting schools and districts that want to bring scholastic chess events to their own district.

If a school district or organization would like to host a chess tournament, the GCSCL can help make it happen. This website is designed in part to help local school districts schedule and organize scholastic chess tournaments.  It was also created to connect those who share the vision of promoting chess to student in our area.

The GCSCL can assist by:
• Providing tournament guidance and organizational support
• Loaning chess equipment and supplies
• Offering use of this website for event information and registration
• Helping promote events to local schools and chess families

Host districts primarily need to provide:
• A district or school contact person
• An appropriate event space
• Standard event insurance coverage, similar to other school-sponsored activities and sporting events

Together, we can continue growing scholastic chess opportunities across the Gold Country region and give more students the chance to learn, compete, and connect through chess.
